Elementary Curriculum for Parents

In Magnolia ISD, we believe in providing engaging, quality instruction that is standards-aligned to meet the needs of all learners. Our caring and dedicated teachers utilize a challenging curriculum that inspires and develops the unique talents and abilities of all students.

In addition to classroom learning, involvement at home can elevate student achievement. There are many ways you can support your child during the elementary years. We have put together some resources that caregivers can use to continue the learning that is happening in the classroom. These activities will be changed each grading period. With your help, we can achieve even more progress to further your child’s educational journey.

Chronic Attendance Concerns

Our attendance committee is reviewing absentee concerns for the 2022-2023 school year. MISD attendance policy follows the Education Code 28.023 which requires any student K- 12 not be given credit or a final grade for a class unless the student is in attendance for 90% of the days class is offered. Students with excessive absences are offered to obtain credit recovery for absences. Students must make up work by completing an attendance intervention plan proposed by the school’s administration. The MISD student handbook states:

Attendance for Credit or Final Grade:

To receive credit or a final grade in a class, a student must attend at least 90 percent of the days the class is offered. A student who attends at least 75 percent but fewer than 90 percent of the days the class is offered may receive credit or a final grade for the class if he or she completes a plan, approved by the principal that allows the student to fulfill the instructional requirements for the class. (See policy FEC.)

If your child had more than 9 absences for the first semester, look for attendance letters and the make up schedule in Wednesday folders.
